I’m publishing this post from Houston where I’ve moved with the family for work.

Just taking it as being too chicken to train in cold weather. It’s warm and humid now, ideal training camp for Kona Ironman !

So see all y’all in September, October and or December !

Ocean swim like in a pool

After somebody said today that the ocean was full of stingers at the Sorrento Beach, I decided to swim at the Hillarys Marina (Perth, Western Australia). I’ve done it before, and if you swim at a reasonable time during the day, chances are that if there is a shark a lot of people will have seen it by mid morning. Gives me some peace of mind with the Trigg beach closed a few days ago because of a 4 m shark… 😉

It’s an ocean swim in a protected area of the boat harbour, almost like a pool. Even better, because you get to see decent sized fish close to the inner jetty, if people are feeding them.

The lap is 285 m long so a set of 5*2*285m makes a decent 2.850 km swim. Not bad! I measured the distance using a “Google Maps distance calculator“.

Chevron CityToSurf Marathon – Perth – Strategy, plan and tips for newbies

If you are an accomplished marathon runner you can continue surfing the internet somewhere else… this is not for you! But if it will be your first time running C2S Perth, maybe your first marathon, keep reading.

My background: more than 10 marathons (including 2 Boston), and 5 years of running and triathlon racing. Not a pro, but with that compelling felling to share with fellow runners and amateur athletes.

C2S is not the easiest course for a beginner. Hopefully by now you know that the first half is fairly flat, while the second has rolling hills. Check the course map in PDF. There is also a course profile at the bottom …Keep reading, there’s a lot more

Less than 7 days to the Perth Marathon

After suddenly catching a cold last week, I think I’ve been lucky enough to be recovering quickly.

I’ve run less than other times before a marathon. I trust my fitness level. I feel a bit uneasy that I haven’t gone for any long runs (>35 km). It’s just that I’m not sure if my feet and joints remember what it’s like to maintain a 3:10 marathon run pace… 😉

I’ve been able to bring my average weight down to 67kg. Now I need to focus on eating well and healthy, without stuffing my body with crap. I confess to drinking a couple of beers, but it was for a good cause (Oliver Acklin) and a classic place: the Paddington Ale House
